Appliances We Repair

Most call-outs we attend in Dubai fall into a handful of machines that every home depends on. Our technicians carry common spares and diagnostic tools on the van, so a large share of jobs are finished on the first visit rather than turning into a two-trip repair.

  • Washing machines - drum not spinning, water not draining, door locked shut, excessive vibration, error codes, leaking from the door seal or detergent drawer.
  • Refrigerators and freezers - not cooling, freezing food in the fridge compartment, water pooling at the base, compressor running constantly, ice build-up at the back panel, noisy fan.
  • Dishwashers - dishes coming out dirty or filmy, water left standing at the bottom, mid-cycle stops, drainage faults, spray arm blockages.
  • Ovens and cookers - no heat, uneven baking, thermostat drift, faulty igniters on gas hobs, door hinges and seals, oven light and fan failures.
  • Tumble dryers - long drying times, no heat, drum not turning, blocked lint paths, noisy bearings.
  • Microwaves - not heating, turntable stuck, door switch faults, sparking inside the cavity.
  • Water heaters - no hot water, tripping the breaker, leaks from the tank or connections, thermostat problems.
  • Small built-in units - extractor hoods, built-in coffee machines, waste disposals and warming drawers.

Common Faults and What They Usually Mean

Not every appliance problem needs a paid visit. A few faults have simple causes that are worth ruling out before you book, and we would rather tell you that than charge for a call-out you did not need.

A washing machine that will not drain is very often a blocked pump filter, which is usually a small hatch behind a panel at the bottom front of the machine. Coins, hair clips and screws collect there. If clearing it does not help, the drain pump or pressure sensor is the next suspect, and that does need a technician.

A fridge that runs constantly but is not cold enough is frequently a build-up of ice on the evaporator behind the rear panel of the freezer, caused by a failed defrost heater or timer. Switching the unit off for a full day so it defrosts naturally will often restore cooling for a short period, which tells you the sealed system is fine and the defrost circuit is the fault.

A dishwasher leaving grit on plates is usually a blocked filter at the base or clogged holes in the spray arms rather than a mechanical failure. Both can be lifted out and rinsed. If the machine still underperforms after that, the circulation pump or the inlet valve is worth checking.

An oven that heats unevenly or takes far longer than the recipe says has usually drifted out of calibration or has a worn door seal letting heat escape. A simple oven thermometer will show you the difference between the dial setting and the real temperature.

If a machine trips the breaker the moment it is switched on, stop using it and unplug it. That points to a short somewhere in the heating element or motor, and it is not something to keep resetting.

How Our Repair Visit Works

The visit is booked as an hourly repair call. Here is what actually happens, so there are no surprises.

  • Booking and time slot. You tell us the appliance, the brand and what it is doing. That lets the technician load likely spares before leaving, which is the single biggest factor in finishing on the first visit.
  • Diagnosis on arrival. The technician runs the machine, reads any error code, and checks the parts most likely to cause that symptom. Diagnosis normally takes fifteen to thirty minutes.
  • You approve before work starts. Before anything is dismantled or replaced, you are told what the fault is, what the part costs and how long the repair will take. Nothing proceeds until you say yes.
  • The repair. Most straightforward jobs, such as a drain pump, door seal, heating element, thermostat or belt, are completed in the same visit.
  • Test and clean-up. The technician runs a full cycle or brings the unit up to temperature to confirm the fault is gone, then clears away packaging and the old part.

If a part has to be ordered, you are told the expected wait before the technician leaves, and the second visit is arranged around your schedule.

Repair or Replace: How to Decide

Sometimes the honest answer is that a repair is not worth it, and we will tell you so. A useful rule is to compare the repair cost against the price of an equivalent new machine and against the age of the one you own.

If the repair costs more than about half the price of a comparable replacement, and the appliance is already past two thirds of its expected life, replacing usually makes better financial sense. Washing machines and dishwashers in daily family use typically last around eight to ten years, refrigerators around ten to fifteen, and ovens often longer because they have fewer moving parts.

Age alone is not the deciding factor though. A ten year old German-built washing machine with a failed pump is usually worth fixing, because the rest of the machine is built to keep going. A three year old budget unit with a failed main control board can easily be the opposite, because the board is often the most expensive single component in the appliance.

What matters most is that you get the numbers before you commit. Our technician will give you the parts cost and labour estimate on the spot so you can make that decision with real figures rather than a guess.

What Affects the Cost of a Repair

The call-out and labour are charged hourly, and the part is quoted separately once the fault is confirmed. A few things move the final number.

  • The part itself. A door seal or filter is inexpensive. A compressor, main control board or inverter module is not.
  • Original versus compatible parts. Original manufacturer parts cost more but fit exactly. Where a good quality compatible part exists we will offer both options and let you choose.
  • Access. Built-in and integrated appliances take longer, because the unit has to be released from the cabinetry and refitted afterwards. Stacked washer-dryer columns are the same.
  • Whether the machine can be tested immediately. A washing machine repair needs a full cycle to verify, and that adds time on site.

Looking After Appliances in Dubai

Two local conditions shorten appliance life here more than anywhere else, and both are manageable.

The first is hard water. Dubai's supply carries a high mineral content, and scale builds up on heating elements in washing machines, dishwashers and water heaters. Scale acts as insulation, so the element works harder and eventually burns out. Running a hot maintenance wash with a descaler once a month makes a measurable difference, and it is the cheapest maintenance you can do.

The second is fine dust. It settles on condenser coils at the back of fridges and in the vents of dryers and washing machines. A coil coated in dust cannot shed heat, so the compressor runs longer and hotter. Pulling the fridge out twice a year and vacuuming the coils is a five minute job that meaningfully extends the life of the unit.

Beyond those two, the ordinary habits help: do not overload the drum, leave the washing machine door ajar between washes so the seal dries, clean the dryer lint filter every time, and clear the dishwasher filter weekly. Most of the emergency call-outs we attend are the end result of small maintenance that was never done.
