Keyless entry only works properly if the lock is matched to your door and fitted correctly. Most of the smart lock problems we are called out to fix are not faults in the lock itself, they are installation problems: a misaligned latch, a door that has swollen, or a lock that was never suitable for that door in the first place.
Comfort Life fits fingerprint, keypad, card and app-controlled locks on villa doors, apartment doors and office entrances across Dubai. Installation starts from AED 100 and most jobs are done in a single visit.
This is the step most people skip, and it is the one that causes returns. Before you buy, four things decide what will work:
If you have not bought a lock yet, send us a photo of the door and the existing lock and we will tell you what fits before you spend money. If you have already bought one, we will fit it.
Installation starts from AED 100. The lock unit itself is priced separately and varies widely by type and brand, so we quote the fitting and the hardware as two clear lines rather than one vague figure.
What changes the installation cost:
On a straightforward wooden door where the new lock matches the old one exactly, a confident DIYer can do it. The trouble starts when the hole spacing does not match, when the door needs a mortise pocket cut, or when the latch and strike plate need realignment.
Three things usually go wrong with self-installation. The lock is forced onto a door it does not fit, so the latch never seats and the door can be pushed open. The mortise is cut oversized, which weakens the door and cannot be undone. Or the lock is fitted to a rented apartment door in a way the landlord will charge for at move-out.
If the swap is like-for-like, go ahead. If cutting is involved, or the door is aluminium, glass or a fire door, get it fitted properly.
Most Dubai tenancy contracts require the door to be returned in its original condition. That does not mean you cannot have a smart lock, it means you should choose one that can be reversed.
Rim locks and retrofit units that mount over the existing cylinder leave the door largely untouched, and the original lock can be refitted when you move out. We keep the original hardware and hand it back to you rather than throwing it away. Tell us it is a rental and we will fit accordingly.
Smart locks warn you well before the batteries die, usually with beeps or a flashing indicator for days or weeks. Most models also have a backup: a mechanical key, or emergency power contacts on the outside that take a power bank to give you enough charge to open the door.
When we hand over, we show you where the backup is, how to use it, and we make sure you keep the mechanical override key somewhere other than inside the flat.
We install smart locks across Dubai, including Dubai Marina, JLT, Jumeirah, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Al Barsha, JVC, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Mirdif, Deira, Bur Dubai, International City, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills Estate, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens and Dubai Sports City.
Most smart lock jobs are done in one visit. What decides the time is the door, not the lock.
| Situation | Typical time on site |
|---|---|
| Direct swap onto an existing mortise cut-out | 45–60 minutes |
| Rim lock fitted to a standard wooden door | 60–90 minutes |
| Door needs cutting or the cut-out needs enlarging | 2–3 hours |
| Metal, glass or reinforced door | 2–4 hours |
| Each additional door on the same visit | Add 30–45 minutes |
Programming is included in that time. Before the technician leaves, your fingerprints, PINs, cards or app users are set up, tested from both sides of the door, and you are shown the mechanical backup so you can never be locked out by a flat battery.
The single most common reason a smart lock purchase goes wrong in Dubai is buying a lock that does not match the door. Use this as a quick guide before you order anything.
| Your door | What usually fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard apartment entrance (wooden, mortise lock) | Mortise smart lock, direct replacement | Backset and lock-body size must match, or the door needs cutting |
| Villa main door (thick wooden or composite) | Mortise smart lock with a longer spindle | Door thickness — many retail locks only cover 38 to 55 mm |
| Glass or aluminium door | Glass-door smart lock or a frame-mounted unit | Usually cannot be drilled; needs a purpose-built model |
| Internal or store room door | Surface-mounted rim lock | Lighter duty, not suitable as a main entrance lock |
| Rented apartment | Rim lock or a reversible mortise swap | Keep the original lock so it can be refitted when you move out |
If you are not sure, send a photo of the door edge with the existing lock visible and we will tell you what fits before you spend anything.
Two things about Dubai matter more than the brand you choose. The first is heat: a lock mounted on a door in direct afternoon sun runs hotter than the manufacturer assumed, and battery life drops accordingly. The second is dust, which settles on fingerprint sensors far faster here than in cooler climates. Neither is a reason to avoid a smart lock, but both are reasons to buy a model with a sealed keypad and to keep a spare set of batteries in the drawer.
For families, set up one code per person rather than sharing a single PIN. It costs nothing, and it means you can remove one code, when a helper leaves or a short-term guest checks out, without disturbing anyone else.
Most call-outs we attend are one of a short list of problems, and several of them you can check yourself in a couple of minutes.
If none of that clears it, book a visit and the technician will diagnose it on site and tell you whether it is an adjustment, a part, or a lock that has reached the end of its life before any work is agreed.
