AC repair starts with a diagnostic call-out, and the rate below is the same rate shown in the online booking system.
| Service | Price | What It Covers |
|---|---|---|
| AC repair technician visit | AED 140 | Full diagnosis, electrical and pressure checks, minor adjustments, drainage clearing and a test run |
| Parts and refrigerant | Quoted after diagnosis | Capacitors, contactors, thermostats, fan motors, PCBs, gas and leak repair |
| Compressor and major component work | Quoted after diagnosis | Assessed on site with a repair or replace recommendation |
We do not quote a repair price before seeing the unit, because anyone who does is guessing. The technician finds the actual fault first, then tells you what the fix costs and what the part costs, and you decide before any work begins. If you choose not to proceed, you pay only the call-out and nothing else.
Most AC complaints in Dubai fall into a small number of patterns. This table will not replace a diagnosis, but it will tell you how urgent your problem is.
| What You Notice | Most Likely Cause | Urgency |
|---|---|---|
| Running but not cooling | Dirty filter or coil, low refrigerant from a leak, failing capacitor | Same week |
| Water dripping from the indoor unit | Blocked drain line or drain pan | Same day, water damage risk |
| Outdoor unit runs, indoor blows warm | Refrigerant loss or compressor not engaging | Same day |
| Unit trips the breaker | Electrical fault, seized fan or compressor, overload | Same day, do not keep resetting |
| Loud rattling or grinding | Fan bearing, loose blade, debris in the outdoor unit | Turn off and call |
| Musty smell when it starts | Microbial growth on the coil or in the drain pan | Cleaning rather than repair |
| Cools then stops, repeatedly | Short cycling from a sensor fault, dirty coil or oversized unit | Same week |
| Ice on the pipe or coil | Restricted airflow or low refrigerant | Turn off, call same day |
A share of the call-outs we attend turn out to be one of these, and checking takes five minutes. We would rather you save the visit.
Check the filter first. In Dubai a filter can clog in weeks, and a clogged filter is the single most common reason an AC stops cooling properly. Slide it out, hold it up to the light, and if you cannot see light through it, wash it, dry it completely and refit it. Many units recover immediately.
Check the breaker and the isolator. If the unit is completely dead, look at the distribution board and at the isolator switch near the outdoor unit, which sometimes gets switched off during other work and forgotten. Reset a tripped breaker once. If it trips again, stop and call, because it is protecting something.
Check the remote and the mode. Units get left on fan mode, on a timer, or with the set temperature above room temperature, and each of those produces air that is not cold. Set it to cool, 22 degrees, high fan, and give it fifteen minutes before judging.
If none of those three fixes it, the fault is real and worth a technician.
An air conditioner here does more work in one year than the same unit does in several years in a mild climate, and three local factors drive nearly every failure we see.
Runtime is the first. Many units run for most of the day for six or seven months of the year. Every component has a service life measured in running hours, so the calendar age of a Dubai unit understates how worn it is.
Dust is the second. Fine desert dust coats the evaporator and condenser coils. A coated coil cannot transfer heat, so cooling drops while the compressor works harder to compensate, which shortens its life and raises the electricity bill at the same time. This is why annual coil cleaning is not cosmetic.
Humidity is the third. A working AC pulls a large volume of water out of the air, and all of it has to leave through the drain line. Combined with dust, that constant moisture is what turns a drain line into a blocked drain line, and blocked drains are the most common water damage call we attend.
This is the fault worth acting on fastest, because the AC will usually keep cooling while it quietly damages your wall, ceiling or flooring.
The usual cause is a blocked condensate drain. Dust and biological growth build up inside the line until water backs up in the drain pan and overflows out of the front of the indoor unit. Clearing and flushing the line resolves it, and it is routine work rather than a major repair.
Less often it is a drain pan that has cracked or corroded, a drain line installed without enough fall so water never runs away properly, or a frozen coil that is now melting and shedding more water than the pan can hold. A technician can tell which within minutes.
What to do right now: switch the unit off so it stops producing water, put a container under the drip, and book a same day visit. Leaving it running does not help and adds hours of water into the wall.
Not cooling is a symptom with several very different causes, and the honest sequence matters because the cheap causes are also the most common.
Airflow restriction comes first. A clogged filter, a dust-coated evaporator coil or a blocked return grille all reduce the volume of air across the coil. Cooling drops even though the system is technically working. This is a cleaning job, not a repair job, and it is the most frequent cause by a wide margin.
Refrigerant loss comes second. An AC does not consume refrigerant. If the level is low, it leaked, and topping it up without finding the leak means you will be back in the same position in a few months. A proper job finds the leak, repairs it, then recharges. Anyone offering to just top it up every year is selling you the same problem repeatedly.
Electrical faults come third. A failing capacitor is a very common cause of an outdoor unit that hums but will not start. Contactors, thermostats, sensors and control boards all produce partial cooling failures that look identical from the room.
Compressor failure is last and least common, but it is the one that decides whether the unit is worth keeping.
At some point paying for another repair stops making sense, and we would rather tell you that than take the money.
Repair is the sensible choice when the unit is under roughly eight years old, the compressor is healthy, the fault is a component such as a capacitor, fan motor, sensor or control board, or the problem is a repairable leak. These repairs are usually a small fraction of replacement cost and buy several more years.
Replacement deserves serious thought when the compressor has failed on an older unit, when the same fault keeps returning, when the unit uses an older refrigerant that is expensive and increasingly hard to source, or when repair costs are approaching a meaningful share of a new unit. A modern inverter unit also uses noticeably less electricity, and in a Dubai summer that difference is not trivial over a full season.
The technician gives you the assessment and the numbers. The decision stays yours.
Most emergency AC call-outs in July are preventable in April.
Wash the filter every three to four weeks during the cooling season. Book a professional coil and drainage clean before summer starts rather than during it, when everyone is calling at once. Keep the outdoor unit clear of stored items, and make sure nothing blocks the air coming out of it. Listen for changes, since a new rattle or a slower start is the unit telling you something before it fails outright.
If the same unit has needed attention twice in one season, ask for the underlying cause rather than another fix. Repeat faults almost always have one root that nobody has addressed.
Slots run from 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening, seven days a week including public holidays. Same day service is usually available for no-cooling and water-leak calls, which we treat as priority.
Payment is taken after the work is done and the unit has been tested, never in advance. Cash, card on site, and Tabby in four interest free instalments are all accepted. If the same fault returns shortly after the same repair, tell us and we will come back to it.
